The building of San Pio V, current home of the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia and the Royal Academy of San Carlos, was founded by Archbishop John Thomas Rocabertí. Nowadays, is the most important paintings museum in Valencia and one of the first in Spain. His collection in Gothic Paintings from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries has international recognition.

The most famous art pieces the museum owns are “Autoretrato” of Velázquez and “Virgen con el niño y donante” from the Italian Pinturicchio. In this museum, the students will see some of the most important gothic and romanic Spanish paintings like “Retablo de la Santa Cruz” or “Retablo de San Miguel Arcángel”.

The visit to the permanent exhibition will help students to realize the differences between gothic paintings and contemporany art, as well as, to understand the evolution developed in painting the last 500 years.
